Elements of Near Eastern influence on objects of the Cretan toreutics

Abstract

Object of the present paper is a research on the elements of near eastern influence on a bronze tympanon from Crete, found as a votive deposit at the Idaen cave and two shields – the first one is found as a votive deposit at the Idaen cave again, the second shield is discovered in the necropolis of Orthi Petra, in tomb A1/K1, near to Eleutherna. The analysis is based on the study of concrete elements in the scenes, compared with other similar artifacts from Mesopotamia, Asia Minor and The Levant.
