Circular ditched enclosures, ditches, Early Neolithic, Thrace

This article presents the known so far Early Neolithic circular ditched enclosures found in Thrace. Four of the sites with circular ditches are situated in the Upper Thrace. Those are Yabalkovo, Nova Nadezhda, Kazlacha and Pilyov Kaynak. A complicated system of ditches is unearthed at the settlement of Aşağı Pınar, within the town of Kirklareli in Eastern Thrace. No such enclosures are discovered in the Aegean Thrace. Here, an attempt has been made to outline the basic characteristics of the ditches. Finally, the Thracian ditched enclosures are considered in the context of Northwest Anatolia and Northern Greece.
